Celebrated New Zealand photographer Rob Tucker is the driving force behind a photojournalism fundraising project for cash-strapped palliative care organisation Hospice Taranaki.

Tucker, who is in the late stages of terminal cancer and being cared for by the hospice, came up with the idea of approaching New Zealand’s “brotherhood” of photography and photojournalism to donate images for a September exhibition and auction.

About 40 photographers have taken up the challenge, supplying some of the most iconic news and creative images of New Zealand’s history over the past 50-plus years – and more.

Included in the fundraising project are Tucker, Ross Land, Peter Bush, Michael Tubberty, Geoff Dale, Andy Jackson, Sam Scannell, Mark Mitchell, Kirk Hargreaves, Rob Taggart – the list is long and growing.

Huge thanks goes to Ken Surie at Kens Camera and video in Christchurch for printing photos, and Jane’s Gallery in New Plymouth for helping with mounting the images.
